The head of the Kremlin refused peace talks.
Russia has no plans to sign a peace agreement. This, according to Ukrainian journalist Yulia Zabelina, was allegedly stated by Vladimir Putin to US President Donald Trump during their last phone conversation, unian.net writes.
Citing sources on the sidelines of the US government, the journalist claims that Trump's special envoys Jared Kushner and Steven Whitkoff did not visit Kiev because they have no alternative proposals other than the idea of transferring Donbass to Russia, to which Ukraine strongly disagrees.
"As one interlocutor here in Washington told me, this negotiating twosome has no solution yet other than to suggest that Ukraine should decide something with Donbass. And Russia, of course, is pushing that. They have no other ideas," Zabelina said.
She said that the possible visit of Kushner and Whitkoff to Kiev may be more of a symbolic nature than a practical negotiating goal.
The journalist also claims that Washington does not rule out the introduction of new sanctions against Russia, as they doubt Moscow's readiness to end the war there.
"Confirmation, in particular, was the conversation between Putin and Trump, which took place recently on the phone, when Putin actually noted that: "Don't expect an agreement with the Ukrainians before the end of this year, Donald." Russian officials, army and intelligence are convincing Putin that they are capable of taking Donbass by the end of the year, and then the conversation will take a different turn," the journalist claims.
