A Massive Refinery In Russia Goes Up In Flames After A Drone Attack

The city of Syzran in the Samara region is covered with black smoke.

The city of Syzran in Russia's Samara region was attacked by drones overnight and in the morning on Thursday, May 21, and a fire broke out, Telegram channel Astra writes.

Local residents report smoke over the city.

The network writes about a probable UAV attack on a local oil refinery. According to Exilenova+, one of the oil refining units at the Syzran refinery is probably on fire. Thick black smoke is rising above the city.

The Syzran refinery in Russia's Samara region, which processes between 7 and 8.9 million tons of oil annually, is involved in supplying the armed forces of the aggressor country. Defense forces have already hit the refinery several times - notably in December 2025. After one of the attacks at the end of last year, the Syzran refinery suspended operations.

The explosions in Syzran were also reported in April 2026.
