Lithuanian Foreign Minister: Moscow And Minsk Are Responsible For Violations Of Our Airspace
Kęstutis Budris

Kęstutis Budrys commented on the incident with a drone near the border.

Moscow and Minsk are responsible for violations of Lithuanian airspace. So the incident with a drone near the border of the country was commented by the head of the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry Kiastutis Budrys.

"Another drone. Another air alert in the Baltic States. This time - near the border between Lithuania and Belarus. NATO's Baltic Air Policing mission has been activated. These drone incidents are not happening in isolation. The growing wave of drone violations in the Baltic States is a direct consequence of Russia's war against Ukraine and Belarus' complicity in it. Moscow and Minsk are responsible for violations of our airspace and threats to the safety of civilians," Burdis wrote on the social network X.

The foreign minister noted that Russia meanwhile continues its information campaign, falsely accusing the Baltic states of facilitating drone strikes against Russia.

"Lithuania has never allowed its territory or airspace to be used for such attacks," Budrys said.

The diplomat added that the NATO and EU response cannot remain symbolic. It is necessary to strengthen the relevant NATO capabilities, create a special EU instrument for the stability of the eastern flank and strengthen the protection of critical EU infrastructure, as well as measures to counter the Kremlin's propaganda narratives.

Reminder, Lithuanian residents in the morning of May 20 received a warning "about the threat from the air" because of a drone recorded on the territory of Belarus. Vilnius noted that the Armed Forces of Belarus warned them about the drone.

The drone flew into Estonia on May 19 and was shot down. The country's Defense Ministry believes it was most likely a Ukrainian drone heading to targets in Russia. In Latvia, two drones that flew in from Russia crashed on May 7.
