Another supertanker carrying Iraqi oil has managed to cross the U.S. sea blockade line and enter the Arabian Sea amid ongoing negotiations between the U.S. and Iran to resume shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
As Bloomberg reports, the Eagle Verona tanker loaded at the Basra terminal on February 28 and has remained blocked ever since. The vessel is now heading to the Chinese port of Ningbo, where it is due to arrive on June 12.
The day before, the Al Hamra gas carrier also left the Strait of Hormuz. This is the first voyage with liquefied gas to India since the beginning of the escalation of the conflict over Iran.
According to the Iranian agency ISNA, 33 ships have passed through the strait in the last 24 hours after receiving permission from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
The U.S. side, for its part, said its forces had diverted more than 100 commercial vessels in the six-week naval blockade of Iranian ports.
Nevertheless, a significant number of vessels remain blocked to the Persian Gulf after Iran effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz in late February in response to U.S.-Israeli strikes.
