French media shared details of the conversation.
French President Emmanuel Macron has directly warned Alexander Lukashenko about the consequences of getting involved in the war against Ukraine.
According to the French media, which cites a source close to the French leader, Emmanuel Macron "emphasized the risks for Belarus if it allows itself to be drawn into Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine." In addition, the French president urged Lukashenko to "take the necessary steps to improve relations between Belarus and Europe," notes tf1info.
Additional alarm in the West was caused by the joint nuclear exercises between Russia and Belarus, which took place on May 18. The AFP news agency additionally emphasizes that Belarus, which borders NATO's eastern flank, is now receiving Russia's latest Oreshnik missile systems capable of carrying nuclear charges.
It is worth noting that France plans to conduct joint air force exercises with Poland over NATO's eastern flank - the Baltic Sea and Poland's northern regions - involving Rafale multi-role fighters equipped with nuclear warheads and ASMP tactical cruise missiles. In the course of the exercise, among other things, simulated strikes against targets on the territory of Russia and Belarus are to be worked out.
This was reported by WP Wiadomości on April 23. According to it, this is "an element of the expansion of the French nuclear umbrella on the countries threatened by the aggressive policy of the Kremlin".
