Abiola Dauda stated that he was threatened.

Former Nigeria and Swedish Kalmar striker Abiola Dauda has shared shocking details about his failed transfer to Dynamo Minsk in early 2013. In his account in X, the 38-year-old footballer called those events "the worst experience in his career," admitting that he seriously feared for his life because of threats from representatives of the Belarusian club.

Contract on a napkin in the middle of the wasteland

In December 2012, after the end of the contract with the Swedish club, Dauda almost agreed the terms of the transfer to the Minsk team. The striker flew to Belarus in January, transiting through Latvia to undergo a standard medical examination.

The problems began immediately after the successful medical examination, when the player returned to the hotel, accompanied by the "president" of Dynamo and an unnamed "Russian agent".

"They stopped the car in some wasteland, right there wrote on a napkin the new terms of the agreement and demanded that I signed. They were extremely aggressive and threatening. I was really scared. Moreover, they promised to falsify the results of medical tests and say that I had found heart problems if I refused to sign the paper," recalls Dauda.

Flee to Sweden and search for the guilty

Once in the hotel room, the forward immediately contacted his official agent. The latter promptly purchased for the player a ticket for the nearest plane to Sweden. Upon his return, Dauda underwent another medical examination, which confirmed that he was absolutely healthy.

The athlete added that he later heard about similar methods of pressure on other athletes, who may have had no choice but to give in.

Dauda could not remember the name of the Russian mediator, but describing the head of the Minsk club, who was present in the car, said that he "was very young at the time". The ex-footballer offered journalists and fans to reconstruct the chronology of events of January 2013 to understand who exactly he was talking about.
