23-year-old Gomel Resident, Sentenced To 6.5 Years In Prison, Was Tried Again

The political prisoner was charged under the article on "disobedience to the colony administration" (Article 411 of the Criminal Code), the sentence is still unknown to human rights activists.

23-year-old Homel resident Ilya Veremeev was detained in February 2022. In August 2022, he was convicted under the articles "attempted organization of mass riots" and "incitement of hostility" (Articles 14, Article 293 and 130 of the Criminal Code).

According to human rights activists, Ilya was tried because of comments in a chat room written after the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The young man has a sister living in Ukraine.
