MEP, former Minister of Interior and Administration of Poland Mariusz Kaminski during his speech in the European Parliament recalled the situation with freedom of speech in Belarus.
He noted that "in Belarus, despite amnesties, journalists continue to be imprisoned.
Mariusz Kaminski recalled Denis Ivashin, who was sentenced to 13 years in prison for writing an article about persons connected with Lukashenko's apparatus of repression.
"There is another aspect, and the question to Mrs. Boguslawska, to the European External Action Service - about the support of independent media, often created, as in the case of Belarus, outside the country. Because there are no conditions for free media inside the country. The financial support provided by this commission is not great, but it exists. However, it does not go directly to independent media, but through intermediary organizations. This leads to the fact that these structures are guided by their own criteria, often subjective, not transferring funds to all the important media, created by independent Belarusian journalists - such as "Radio Racyja", "Charter'97" - they have never received European assistance for their activities," - said Kaminski.
