A court in the United States has released a memo that financier Jeffrey Epstein allegedly may have written shortly before his death. The text of the document is published by The New York Times. The memo had previously remained classified amid controversy surrounding the circumstances of the businessman's death and the testimony of his cellmate.
The publication notes that the decision to publish it was made after journalists petitioned the court.
The text of the memo reads:
"They investigated me for a month - they found nothing!!!! So they resurrected charges from 15 years ago. It is a great comfort to be able to choose my own time to say goodbye. What do you want me to do - pass out again!!! REALLY - THIS IS NOT Worth IT!!!"

According to reporters, Epstein's former cellmate Nicholas Tartaglione said he discovered the note in July 2019, when the financier was found unconscious in his cell with a cloth wrapped around his neck. He said the document was written on a yellow piece of paper torn from a notebook.
After the incident, Epstein reportedly told prison officials that he did not plan to commit suicide and accused a cellmate of assault. He later retracted those claims, saying there was no conflict between the two.
