BI: Ukraine Is Already Shooting Down 90% Of Russian Drones And Britain Is Watching Closely

London is using the experience of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Ukraine says the effectiveness of intercepting Russian drones launched in massive attacks has increased to 90%. Commander-in-Chief of the British Royal Air Force Harvey Smith told Business Insider that London is already learning lessons from Kiev's successes on the battlefield.

Smith noted in a conversation with reporters that Ukraine has indeed started shooting down more Russian drones. He emphasized that Ukrainian forces often shoot down about 90% of drones even when Russia launches hundreds of UAVs from different directions.

The publication recalled that in April, Ukrainian forces intercepted nearly 6,000 missiles and drones launched by Russia. More than 89% of the attack drones were shot down, and during some of the largest attacks this figure reached even 95%.

Smith shared with journalists that Ukraine has deployed UAV defense systems that have performed well in combat, and continues to develop these capabilities.

"They are building their capabilities at such a rate - it's just amazing. I'm at the point now where I'm going there to learn from them. The experience we are getting from Ukraine - and the fact that they are actually fighting an enemy that we may have to defend ourselves against in the future - will be used to shape the UK's military plans," Smith told reporters.

The publication added that Ukraine has pioneered the development of interceptor drones, which have become a cost-effective way to shoot down enemy drones. Global interest in such drones has skyrocketed since the Iran war began.

In addition, Ukraine uses a variety of other means to combat Russian drones, including short-range missile systems, truck-mounted machine guns, electronic warfare, helicopters and even other aircraft.
