Ukraine Issued An Ultimatum To Russia At The UN

Patience isn't endless.

Ukraine's Permanent Representative to the UN Andriy Melnyk issued an ultimatum to Russia, warning that Ukraine may revise its proposals during negotiations with the Kremlin.

This could happen if the UN Security Council continues to delay its response to Russia’s actions. Andriy Melnyk made this statement during a UN Security Council meeting on June 22, according to “Suspilne”.

During his remarks, the official emphasized that Ukraine is ready to hold direct negotiations with Russia to achieve a just peace. However, the Ukrainian side’s patience has its limits.

“Ukraine is ready for direct negotiations with Russia to achieve a just and lasting peace in accordance with the UN Charter. But our patience is not unlimited,” Melnik stated.

He added that Ukraine’s proposal for a ceasefire along the line of contact already represents a significant compromise.

“If the UN Security Council continues to adopt a wait-and-see stance, Ukraine may reconsider its current proposals. A ceasefire along the de facto front line is already a major compromise,” emphasized Ukraine’s Permanent Representative.

Andriy Melnyk also addressed Russia’s representative to the Security Council. He told her that Russia would not be able to hold onto the territories its troops had managed to capture and stated that Russian forces must leave Ukrainian soil as soon as possible.

In addition, the official recalled the recent massive Russian attack on the Ukrainian capital, during which the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra was damaged, and stressed that Russia must be held accountable for these crimes.
