An American general named a decisive factor in the war.
Retired American General Ben Hodges said that the liberation of Crimea is key to security in the Black Sea, the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Kirill Budanov will destroy the Crimean bridge sooner or later. In his opinion, the peninsula will become a decisive factor in the Russian-Ukrainian war.
He said this during an event at the Center for European Policy in Brussels, according to the Telegraph.
The general said that as long as Russia controls Crimea, it is able to influence almost all processes in the Black Sea, interfere in energy projects, disrupt supplies from Ukrainian ports and block the work of Mariupol and Berdyansk.
"As long as it 'sits' in Crimea, it will be impossible for Ukraine to restore and reuse Mariupol and Berdyansk because Russia is blocking that big damn bridge, which I'm sure General Budanov will destroy sooner or later," Hodges said.
He also noted that Russia seeks to dominate the Black Sea and uses the region as a springboard for its actions beyond it. According to the general, Moscow has "only bad intentions" toward the Black Sea region and opposes projects that allow countries to circumvent Russian influence.
Hodges believes that creating a common economic space between the Black Sea, the Danube, the Caucasus and Central Asia could benefit millions of people. At the same time, he said, for this Ukraine must defeat Russia and force it to live within its own borders.
The experts also noted during the discussion that the situation in the Black Sea could be aggravated by attacks on ports, ships and the development of Russian maritime drones. In their opinion, the future of the region will depend on the outcome of the war and the level of security at sea.
Reminder, on the night of June 4, Occupied Crimea was subjected to a massive drone attack.
