Kiev is already close to obtaining such missiles.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has said that Kiev is very close to creating its own ballistic missile that could be used to strike Russia.
He said this in an interview with Sky News on the eve of talks with the leaders of Britain, France and Germany. "Over several years of war and massive attacks, we've built a lot of different drones and missiles. We don't have ballistics yet, but we are very close," Zelensky said. He noted that Ukrainian attacks on Russian military facilities are proof that Ukrainians will not "just die silently," but will respond and become stronger.
The most famous Ukrainian ballistic missile project is the Sapsan (Grom-2) operational-tactical complex, its range can reach 500 kilometers. In 2024, Ukrainian authorities reported a successful test of the first new-generation ballistic missile, but its characteristics were not disclosed.
In the same interview, Zelensky made it clear that he is still ready to freeze the conflict along the current front line. According to him, he is ready for face-to-face talks with Putin in any format. "It doesn't matter. It is important to stop this as soon as possible," he said. Zelensky said Ukraine would not fulfill Vladimir Putin's main demand - not to withdraw from Donbass and let Russia frame it as a victory.
