Alexei Korshenko was found dead in Moscow; three weeks earlier had been dismissed from his position as deputy general director of “Avia Group,” which manages the business aviation terminals at Sheremetyevo and Pulkovo airports. The cause of death is reported to be suicide.
The newspaper “Moskovsky Komsomolets” was the first to report on the suicide of the former head of the Sheremetyevo business aviation terminal back in June. The publication did not name him, and the article itself went largely unnoticed. This week, the “VChK-OGPU” blog revealed the name of the deceased.
According to the blog, the man was Alexei Korshenko, who committed suicide on June 6. According to “VChK-OGPU,” he was found hanged on a balcony. The channel notes that the deceased’s friends do not believe the suicide theory. “MK” also cited suicide as the cause of Korshenko’s death.
“The Agency” found information in leaked documents regarding Korshenko’s personal documents. They were declared invalid as of June 6. At the time of his death, the executive was 57 years old. MK also cited this age.
On Tuesday, journalists attempted to contact Korshenko’s relatives, but they did not respond to phone calls or messages via messenger.
The deceased had been building a career in the aviation industry since at least 1997, when he began working at Aeroflot, according to the leaked documents examined by journalists. In 2008, he moved to Avia Group, which operates business terminals at Sheremetyevo and Pulkovo airports.
In 2011, he became CEO of AG Terminal, a subsidiary of Avia Group, which, as RBC reported, owned Terminal A at Sheremetyevo, according to data from Spark. In 2015, this company was subject to U.S. sanctions due to its ties to Gennady Timchenko, and in 2020, it was liquidated. After that, Korshenko joined “Avia Group,” where he took the position of deputy general director for ground and terminal services, according to leaked data.
The most recent information about his place of employment in the leaked documents dates back to 2025. At that time, he was still working at “Avia Group.” His colleagues told MK journalists that he had been fired about three weeks before his death, which came as a surprise to them.
What is “Avia Group”? This company, organized as a private joint-stock company, was controlled until 2014 by entities linked to the president’s friend Gennady Timchenko, but he subsequently sold it, according to his representative.
In addition to VIP terminals at Sheremetyevo and Pulkovo, the company also owns a helipad on Valaam Island, which Vladimir Putin visits regularly.
According to data from “Spark,” “Avia Group” reported a net profit of 506 million rubles for 2025.
Since the beginning of 2022, more than two dozen top executives of major companies in Russia—including Gazprom, Novatek, Lukoil, and VK. The most recent known such death was that of 42-year-old Yandex top executive Sergey Loiter in late April: the boat he was on capsized on the Volga River.
