A taxi ride taken by Minsk resident Ekaterina Kravchenko ended with a call to the police. The young woman, in Threads account, she and her friend, as usual, called a taxi to get home after work—this time they chose the “WB Taxi” service.
The problems began even before they got in: the driver didn’t pull up where they were waiting, and they couldn’t reach him by phone. Ekaterina had to send him a photo of the location where he was supposed to pick them up.
When the girls finally got into the car, things started to get weird:
“As we were driving, he seemed strange, but we’d been waiting for him for 15 minutes and had to go since we were running out of time. At some point, he started playing music really loud, as if we were at some kind of club. I asked, ‘Please turn it down,’—and he told us to shut up.”
Ekaterina reprimanded the driver, reminding him that he was at work and shouldn’t speak to passengers that way. According to her, the driver responded by claiming he wasn’t working—though, as she notes, he spoke in broken Russian that was barely recognizable as the language. Ekaterina then warned him that she would record what was happening on her phone, since such behavior was unacceptable.
According to Ekaterina, it was at that very moment that the situation escalated: the driver began making obscene gestures at the female passengers and swearing, and then knocked the phone out of her hands.
“The phone fell onto my lap; I lowered my head and told Yulia to keep filming. Then he hit me in the face,” the young woman recounts through tears.
