Lavrov Accused Trump Of Behaving In An “unmanly” Manner

The U.S. has not fulfilled the agreements regarding the end of the war in Ukraine that were reached by Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump at their meeting in Anchorage, stated Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. He was commenting on remarks by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio that the options discussed in Alaska had “failed”. According to Lavrov, the Russian delegation arrived at the summit having already familiarized itself with Washington’s proposals for resolving the conflict in Ukraine.

“President Trump—and I’m not revealing any great secret here—has said more than once: ‘Here’s our proposal—yes, it’s partly a compromise’—and we accepted it. <�…> But he added that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy would do what he had proposed. Well, it didn’t work out,” Lavrov noted (quoted by TASS). He added that the Russian side’s “conscience” is “clear” on this issue. “You know, as they say, a guy’s word is his bond: a guy said it—a guy did it. We said we were ready. But on the other side, that approach has been modified,” the foreign minister emphasized.

Explaining the “failure” of the Trump-Putin agreements, Rubio noted that it was impossible to conclude a peace agreement on the agreed-upon terms due to Ukraine’s disagreement with them. “That is precisely why that attempt didn’t work. So we’ll have to look for new proposals and new ideas, because that option was definitely not acceptable to Ukraine at the time, and I don’t think it’s acceptable to them now either,” said the Secretary of State.

Putin and Trump held a meeting in Alaska on August 15, 2025. The details of the agreement between the parties were not officially disclosed. However, the discussion did not concern a finalized document, but rather a framework for ending the war. According to a Reuters source in Moscow, the Russian and U.S. presidents agreed on the “Anchorage Formula,” which entailed the transfer of the entire Donbas region to Russia, as well as a freeze of the front lines in other areas.

Prior to this, Putin had demanded that Kyiv withdraw Ukrainian troops from the “DPR,” “LPR,” and the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions in order to cease hostilities. Zelenskyy rejected this ultimatum. He later stated that the Trump administration was insisting that Ukraine hand over the Donetsk region to Russia to end the war. However, according to Zelenskyy, Kyiv cannot agree to this, as such a move would undermine the country’s defense capabilities.
