A Suspect In The Berlin Terrorist Attack Was Shot And Killed By Police

Berlin police shot and killed 21-year-old Abdul B.—a suspect in the vehicle attack on the Christopher Street Day LGBT parade—while attempting to arrest him in Berlin’s Spandau district. This was reported on the evening of Sunday, July 26, citing sources, by the Berlin and Hamburg newspapers Der Tagesspiegel and Die Zeit, according to Deutsche Welle.

As a reminder, on the evening of July 25 in Berlin, a white van plowed into a crowd of participants in the annual Christopher Street Day LGBT parade. One person was killed, and 16 others were injured; three of them are in critical condition.

According to investigators, the incident occurred around 10:00 p.m. near Tiergarten Park after the main parade had ended. The van drove down Ahornsteig Street, striking people, before crashing into a tree. According to German media reports, the driver then got out of the vehicle and attacked passersby with a knife. Police are currently verifying these reports.

Police have classified the incident as a terrorist attack.
