Economist Igor Lipits Said What Would Bring The Russian Economy To Its Knees

Economist Igor Lipits believes that the disruption of energy infrastructure facilities could cause serious damage to the Russian economy. He made this statement in an interview with Ukrainian journalist Alexander Demchenko on YouTube.

According to Lipsits, the unified power grid, which ensures the transmission of electricity between regions, plays a key role in the functioning of the Russian economy. He noted that, despite the changes that have taken place in the industry over the past decades, certain elements of this system remain critically important.

“I’ve been saying this for a long time: attacks on power substations. These are obvious targets for attack,” the economist said.

Lipits also expressed the view that large-scale damage to energy infrastructure could lead to serious disruptions in the power supply and cause a widespread blackout. According to him, restoring such a system after multiple failures could take a long time.

In addition, he asserts that a prolonged power outage would affect the operation of transportation infrastructure, particularly the Moscow Metro, which is entirely dependent on electricity.
