Trump Impressed With His Speech At The Funeral Of Lindsey Graham, The Architect Of The “hellish” Sanctions Against Russia

The U.S. president's powerful speech lasted about 15 minutes.

U.S. President Donald Trump delivered a powerful eulogy at the funeral of Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, known for his anti-Russian policies, in particular, for imposing “hellish” sanctions against Moscow.

The U.S. president called Lindsey Graham a “true American original” and a “beloved friend” who was one of the most outstanding lawmakers in the country’s history.

Trump also noted that the late senator grew up in a rural town in South Carolina but went on to become “a force to be reckoned with around the world.”

“For more than 30 years, nothing significant happened in this capital without Lindsey Graham’s knowledge,” the president said.

“He was a man who gave America the full measure of his kind and powerful heart until that heart simply ran dry,” added the White House chief.

The U.S. president also recalled that their relationship began with fierce political rivalry during the 2016 presidential campaign but later evolved into a close friendship.

According to Trump, he and Graham often played golf together, and Graham had a rare talent for connecting with people regardless of their political views.

“Above all, Lindsey Graham believed in a strong America... He wanted a strong America. He had an unshakable faith in the righteousness of American power and prayer. And he was extremely bellicose. I’ll tell you, he never saw a war he didn’t like… but he wanted it for the good of our country,” the American leader stated.

Lindsey Graham’s Funeral

The farewell ceremony for Lindsey Graham was held at the Washington National Cathedral. In addition to Trump, speeches were delivered by U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance and Senate Majority Leader John Thune.

Among those in attendance were Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The senator passed away on July 11 at the age of 71. He was one of the authors of a bill imposing tough sanctions against Russia, which called for the imposition of 500-percent tariffs on countries purchasing Russian oil, gas, and other energy resources. Following the senator’s death, the bill was named after him.
