Ukraine's former foreign minister on the likelihood of an attack from Belarus.
The threat of a new offensive from Belarusian territory remains one of the possible scenarios, although it is impossible to predict Minsk’s actions at this time. That is precisely why Ukraine must be prepared for any turn of events.
Former Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba stated “Channel 24” that the behavior of Belarusian dictator Lukashenko is unpredictable, as he constantly vacillates between his own interests and his dependence on the Kremlin. That is precisely why, according to the diplomat, no scenario should be ruled out.
Dmytro Kuleba explained that Lukashenko cannot completely defy Vladimir Putin due to his critical dependence on Russia. At the same time, he is not interested in fully complying with all of the Kremlin’s whims.
According to the former minister, this is precisely why the Belarusian dictator constantly changes his position, leaving himself the flexibility to act depending on the circumstances.
“Today he doesn’t attack, tomorrow he attacks, then he doesn’t attack, then he attacks again. This is a man who has been going in circles his whole life. He has no clear, stable course; he’s constantly maneuvering,” Kuleba said.
Furthermore, Putin is now increasingly isolated on the international stage, which is why Lukashenko’s support is particularly important to him.
“My advice to everyone, given the experience of 2022, is to prepare for the worst. If the worst doesn’t happen—well, thank God, but at least we’ll have prepared for any scenario. And if it does happen, we’ll be ready,” emphasized Ukraine’s former foreign minister.
