The Chinese Geely Atlas Pro Rusted Away After Three Belarusian Winters

A workshop in Vitebsk released a video showing the condition of a Chinese Geely SUV after just a few years of use in the Belarusian climate.

The vehicle in question is a 2022 Geely Atlas Pro with 95,000 kilometers on the odometer. Although the crossover has only endured three winters, its underbody is already covered with numerous spots of corrosion.

““And underneath, everything’s already a mess—just rust. Rust is seeping out of the metal joints, everything’s flaking off, and the situation is the same in the hidden cavities,” the mechanic comments, demonstrating the extent of the problem on a car that’s only four years old.

The video shows that there’s practically not a single part left on the underbody that hasn’t been affected by rust. The beams and other body components have also been affected—corrosion has reached the side members and reinforcements. Moreover, in addition to areas where the metal is already clearly corroded, there are plenty of spots on the body where the paint has peeled off very recently, exposing bare metal.

The mechanic is particularly concerned that the corrosion is concentrated primarily at the mounting points—and this is especially dangerous in the long run if the metal in these areas continues to be eaten away by rust.
