Now he'll be able to play in the World Cup round of 16.

The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) rescinded the red card issued to U.S. national team forward Folarin Balogun following a call from U.S. President Donald Trump, according to Reuters.

Balagun received a red card in the World Cup Round of 16 match against Bosnia and Herzegovina for a rough foul on a defender and was sent off.

After defeating Bosnia and Herzegovina 2–0, the U.S. advanced to the Round of 16, where they will face Belgium. According to the rules, Balogun would not be able to play in that game—a red card automatically results in a one-match suspension.

However, after the match, Donald Trump called FIFA President Gianni Infantino and asked him to reconsider the decision to show Balogun a red card.

FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee suspended the player’s suspension, placing him on a one-year probationary period. “Thank you, FIFA, for doing the right thing and correcting this egregious injustice!” — Trump said.

The U.S. president and Infantino did indeed speak, a source told The New York Post. According to the source, Trump wanted to better understand why the red card was issued and why the suspension followed.
