The BBC has revealed the details.

"Harry Potter" fans succeeded in getting the route of a power cable between the United Kingdom and Ireland changed after complaining that it would disrupt the "memorial" to the house-elf Dobby, according to bbc.com.

A power cable is a conductor used to transmit and distribute electrical current to buildings, appliances, and industrial networks. One such cable, connecting the power grids of the United Kingdom and Ireland, runs along the beach where the scene depicting the death of the fictional character Dobby was filmed in the Harry Potter movies.

Simon Ludlam, the project manager, explained that the cable was originally “supposed to run right through” that spot. He mentioned this in a podcast, but when it was published, the company was flooded with hundreds of calls.

“It turns out we were going to run right through Dobby’s grave,” a colleague explained to him. “Dobby? Who’s Dobby? I don’t know any Dobby,” Ludlam asked. “He’s a fictional character from a fictional book—it’s all made up.” “What on earth are you talking about?” “No, this is very, very serious,” his colleague replied.

Ludlam said that he then discussed with the designers “exactly how to route the cable around Dobby’s grave so as not to come near it.” “Many people were very happy, and the project is now moving forward, and Dobby is pleased,” he added.

In the end, the cable was laid differently, and the “grave” was spared.
