A Scheme To Circumvent Sanctions On The Supply Of Engines For Russian Missiles Has Been Uncovered In Austria

Companies from Belarus, among others, are involved in the scheme.

The Austrian State Security and Intelligence Service (DSN) has uncovered an international scheme in which a Vienna-based company supplied equipment used to manufacture engines for Russian missiles and fighter jets, circumventing European Union sanctions.

This was reported by “European Truth” citing the press service of the Austrian Ministry of the Interior.

The investigation centers on a Vienna-based company through which highly specialized industrial goods were procured for the Russian defense industry.

The company was specifically established to supply sanctioned industrial goods to Russia, in particular computer numerical control (CNC) machine tools and specialized metalworking tools.

To conceal the actual shipment routes, the defendants used an international network of companies in Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, South Korea, Poland, and Lithuania.

The Austrian Ministry of the Interior reported that the equipment was supplied to companies affiliated with the Russian state-owned industrial conglomerate “Rostec.” The investigators’ latest findings indicate that the goods were used to manufacture military equipment, specifically engines for cruise missiles and fighter jets.

The 28-year-old head of the company—a Belarusian citizen—was arrested in May.

On the same day, Austrian authorities seized CNC machine tools and specialized equipment worth approximately 140,000 euros. The suspect, whose name has not been disclosed, remains in custody pending the investigation.

The ministry added that evidence seized during the raids indicates that industrial goods worth more than 3.3 million euros have been supplied to Russian arms manufacturers since 2022.
