Goods Worth The Annual Budget Of A Major Region Of The Russian Federation Were Destroyed In A Fire At Wildberries' Warehouses

Wildberries now has virtually no large warehouses left.
The damage caused by Ukrainian Armed Forces attacks on Wildberries warehouses—including at least 12 mega-hubs that were virtually burned to the ground—continues to mount.
Russia’s largest marketplace, which operates nearly 100,000 order pickup points and sells 6 trillion rubles worth of goods annually, has lost a third of its warehouse capacity to date, according to estimates by Data Insight analysts, reports The Moscow Times.
According to their calculations, 480 billion rubles worth of goods were destroyed in the warehouses hit by the strikes—an amount comparable to the annual budget of Russia’s largest and wealthiest regions, such as Krasnoyarsk Krai (527 billion rubles) or the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug (476 billion rubles).
The damage from the attacks on Wildberries exceeded the annual budget of, for example, the Irkutsk Region (303 billion rubles) by a factor of 1.6; the annual budgets of the Smolensk or Penza Regions—by nearly four times; and the budgets of Kalmykia, the Jewish Autonomous Region, or the Nenets Autonomous Okrug—by 14 to 17 times.
Wildberries now has “virtually no large warehouses left,” Data Insight analyst Sergey Semko told The New York Times: “Every day, one warehouse after another is methodically being destroyed.”
The government is preparing a support package for sellers who have lost their inventory, which, however, does not include direct payments to those affected. Loan payment holidays, preferential loans, and tax breaks are being considered. The budget currently lacks the hundreds of billions of rubles needed to help sellers, a source close to the Kremlin told Reuters. The federal budget deficit for January–July reached 6.5 trillion rubles due to war spending, which may exceed the initial plan by 40%.
What happened to Wildberries, which controls half of the country’s e-commerce market, is a “serious blow to the economy” that will trigger a “wave of bankruptcies,” the source told Reuters.
Wildberries itself may also need assistance, as it has faced a drop in revenue and direct losses of 100–200 billion rubles. The state will most likely step in to rescue the company owned by Tatiana Kim, Russia’s richest woman with a fortune of $8 billion, sources previously told The Bell. According to their estimates, Wildberries’ total funding needs could reach 1.3 trillion rubles. The company will have to increase its debt by at least that amount to “reinvent itself,” one of the publication’s sources explained.
