The head of the Ministry of Finance revealed Washington's plan.
The United States plans to impose unprecedented measures against Iran. First and foremost, this involves exerting significant economic pressure on the regime.
This statement was made by U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, according to Newsmax.
According to the U.S. secretary, next week the White House will announce decisions regarding Tehran that will take the country’s economic isolation to an unprecedented level.
“And stay tuned for an update next week, because we’re going to implement measures that are unprecedented in the history of the country’s economic isolation,” Bessent promised.
He also explained that Washington is effectively intensifying a campaign that began back in 2025. As is well known, at that time, President Donald Trump ordered the resumption of the “maximum pressure” policy against the Iranian regime.
“We’ve moved from ‘Epic Fury’ (the name of the U.S. military operation against Iran—ed.) to economic fury. And on the president’s orders, we have raised the stakes even further,” Bessent noted.
The minister pointed out that the financial pressure is being combined with a blockade of Iranian ports.
“This will be a combination of economic isolation and a sustained blockade in the Strait of Hormuz—the likes of which the world has never seen. It will also prevent ships from entering or leaving Iranian ports,” Bessent explained.
Incidentally, on August 13, the U.S. and Iran effectively announced “full control” over the Strait of Hormuz at the same time.
