A Munitions Plant Will Be Built In Lithuania To Supply Ukraine And NATO

Lithuania has reached an agreement with the Ukrainian defense company DEMZ to implement a large-scale project in the field of ammunition production. The new facility is set to be built at sites in Alytus and the Prienai District, and the project is expected to create hundreds of jobs.

Overall, the project is expected to create up to 450 jobs in Alytus and the Prienai District. DEMZ will seek employees with various skill sets and develop training programs for them.
Construction work at the new site in the Prienai District is scheduled to begin in the fall of 2026. Production is planned to start there by the end of 2027.
The ammunition will be intended primarily for Ukraine
The new plant’s output will be intended primarily for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In the future, there are also plans to supply allies.
Production will meet the defense needs of NATO countries.
The project encompasses not only direct production but also research and the development of new solutions in this field.
