The new owners built a cottage on the site.

The home of Russian satirist Mikhail Zadornov in Jurmala, Latvia—which he called his “family estate”—no longer exists. The new owners tore the building down to the ground and built a modern two-story cottage in its place, according to Delfi reports.

The new owners did not want to preserve the building associated with the comedian, who became known for his anti-Ukraine statements and support for Russian aggression.

Zadornov purchased the house in Jurmala in 1990 and spent a lot of time there—hosting journalists, friends, and representatives of the Russian entertainment industry. The house had 10 rooms, including three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a fireplace.

After Zadornov’s death in 2017, the house passed to his first wife, Velta. At first, she rented it out, and later sold it.

The new owners immediately approached the city council and requested permission to demolish the building. The design for the new house was approved by the Latvian National Heritage Board, as the land is located within an urban heritage site of national significance. It appears that all necessary permits were obtained. Now, a modern cottage worth about 3 million euros stands on the site of the old house.

Until 2014, Zadornov was one of Russia’s most popular comedians and also performed in Ukraine; however, after the Maidan Revolution, his rhetoric changed drastically. The satirist began systematically mocking Ukrainians, Euromaidan, the Ukrainian authorities, and the country’s pursuit of integration with Europe. He claimed that Ukraine would go down in history as a country that “decided it no longer wanted to live in poverty, so it started living even worse.” He mocked Ukraine’s desire to join the European Union (EU) and constantly repeated the propaganda narrative about the events in Donbas.
