A new Russian offensive has been thwarted.
Ukrainian defense forces thwarted a new offensive operation by Russian invaders in the Sumy region.
This was reported by Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
“On August 17 and 18, Russian forces continued limited offensive operations in the north of the Sumy region but did not advance, as Ukrainian forces counterattacked in the area,” U.S. analysts reported.
Indeed, one Russian military blogger acknowledged that Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers successfully counterattacked near Mogritsa and Sadkiv (northeast of the city of Sumy—Ed.).
It was also noted that the Russian army attempted to advance in the north of the Kharkiv region on August 17 and 18, but failed to do so.
Furthermore, it is known that over the past month, Russian occupiers have lost more territory than they have captured near Volchansk (northeast of Kharkiv—Ed.).
ISW sources refute the Russian Ministry of Defense’s latest claims regarding advances on this section of the front.
U.S. analysts report that the Russians also attempted to advance toward Bolshoy Burluk and in the Kupyansk direction, but were unsuccessful.
“Ukrainian forces have recently advanced toward Borova. Geolocated video footage published on August 15 shows Russian troops shelling Ukrainian positions north of Novomikhailivka (southeast of Borova), indicating a recent Ukrainian advance in this area,” the ISW emphasized.
