Ukrainian Border Guards Shot Down A Russian ZALA Z-20 At A Record Altitude

The Russians had hoped that flying at that altitude would put the drone out of reach.

Ukrainian border guards set a new record by intercepting a Russian reconnaissance drone at an altitude of 6,858 meters.

This was reported on the Facebook page “Northern Border” of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.

As noted by border guards, Russian troops are deliberately launching ZALA Z-20 reconnaissance drones at high altitudes, hoping they will remain out of reach of Ukrainian forces.

However, operators of the STING system from the 105th Border Guard Detachment of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine were able to successfully intercept the target at an altitude of 6,858 meters.

According to the State Border Guard Service, this remains the highest confirmed altitude at which an enemy drone has been intercepted by any Ukrainian unit operating in this area.

“And while it’s nice to be record-holders, it’s even nicer to see how Ukrainian technology and the skill of our operators are raising the bar even higher every day,” the statement concludes.

Previously, the record for the highest altitude at which a Russian drone was intercepted belonged to fighters from the “Lasar’s Group” strike UAV unit of the Ukrainian National Guard.

In late July, they destroyed a ZALA Z-20 reconnaissance drone at an altitude of 6,400 meters.
