The dog followed the trail for six hours.
Seven foreigners who illegally crossed the border from Belarus were detained in Latvia. This was reported by the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service.
The violators crossed the Latvian border late in the evening on August 19. Latvian and Lithuanian border guards immediately were dispatched to the site of the suspected crossing. Just 10 minutes into the search, a service dog named Don detected the suspects’ tracks—it became clear that the group was moving deeper into Latvian territory.

The search lasted several hours and took the team through dense forests, meadows, marshy areas, and impassable swamps. A Latvian Army drone was also deployed, but due to the dense vegetation, it was not possible to spot the individuals from the air.
In total, border guards tracked the intruders for about six hours, covering approximately 12 km during that time.
“At approximately 2:30 a.m., thanks to a service dog, we managed to locate seven men who had illegally crossed the Latvian state border. At that moment, they were in extremely difficult-to-navigate marshy terrain,” — the Lithuanian Border Guard Service reported.
All seven foreigners offered no resistance and made no attempt to flee. They were detained and handed over to the Latvian authorities.
