The White House chief stated that “the region is under Washington’s complete control.”
U.S. President Donald Trump made a high-profile statement regarding the status of the Strait of Hormuz—one of the world’s key shipping corridors for oil shipments. According to him, the U.S. now considers this strategic waterway to be part of U.S. territory, adding that the region is under Washington’s full control. He made these remarks during a press briefing with journalists immediately after his arrival and later repeated a similar statement at a campaign rally, as reported by Fox News.
At the same time, Trump clarified that a final decision on the need for any formal agreement regarding the strait has not yet been made.
Touching on the topic of negotiations with Iran, the American leader stated that Tehran is interested in a deal with Washington; however, in his assessment, the Iranian side is still not ready to accept terms that satisfy the U.S. Trump emphasized that he is willing to consider only those agreements that he deems beneficial to the United States.
He also acknowledged that the negotiation process with Iran is proving difficult and noted that he does not fully understand who among the Iranian leadership actually claims to be the country’s leader and with whom exactly the U.S. delegation will be conducting talks.
Separately, journalists asked whether the shift toward economic pressure on Iran meant that U.S. military options regarding Tehran were limited. Trump responded in the negative.
