Ukraine Has Already Fulfilled Its Basic Plan For Building Up Gas Reserves For The Winter

The country's energy minister made this announcement.

Ukraine has accumulated, ahead of schedule, the volume of gas needed for the baseline scenario for the 2026/2027 heating season. There are already 14.6 billion cubic meters of gas in underground storage facilities—the target was achieved one month ahead of schedule.

This was announced by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal.

“Ukraine has stockpiled the gas needed for the baseline scenario for getting through the winter,” Shmyhal said.

According to him, the necessary reserves were built up thanks to the efforts of Ukrainian production companies, the Ukrainian Gas Transmission System Operator, Naftogaz, and workers in the fuel and energy sector.

“As for gas reserves, we are ready for the fall-winter period of 2026/2027. We are continuing our work in other areas,” the minister emphasized.

Against the backdrop of the gas storage plan being fulfilled ahead of schedule, industry experts have repeatedly noted that gas exports are possible provided the domestic market is fully supplied. Under this model, additional revenue can be used to repair damaged facilities, fund new drilling, and increase domestic production; however, if the gas balance deteriorates, exports must be promptly restricted or halted.
