The Strategic Missile Forces of the Russian Armed Forces conducted a combat-training launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile on Friday, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported.

The former have a single warhead with a yield of 800 kilotons, while the latter have four warheads, each with a yield of 250 kilotons, according to The Moscow Times.
According to SIPRI, Russia has a total of 271 missiles of both classes in service (78 “Topol” and 193 “Yars”). They form the backbone of Russia’s ground-based missiles, of which there are 321 in the Russian arsenal (56% of all strategic nuclear missiles).
The Strategic Rocket Forces’ test launches took place three days after the director of the U.S. CIA John Ratcliffe paid an unexpected and unannounced visit to Moscow. According to sources cited by The Wall Street Journal, the purpose of his trip was to warn Vladimir Putin against a possible escalation with NATO, including aggression against Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, which border Russia.
