A High-ranking Occupier Who Had "made A Name For Himself" In Syria Was Eliminated In The Donetsk Region

A Russian colonel fought twice on the side of dictator Assad's regime.

In the Donetsk region, the Ukrainian army killed a Russian officer, Colonel Sergey Khvalov of the Russian Armed Forces. The enemy soldier had previously served twice in Syria, supporting the dictatorial regime of Bashar al-Assad.

This was reported by Ukrainian Armed Forces servicemember Anatoliy Shtefan, who goes by the pseudonym “Stirlitz.” Khvalov was killed in the Kramatorsk district.

What is known

According to available information, Khvalov served as deputy commander for logistics of the 144th Motorized Rifle Division of the Russian Armed Forces and held the rank of colonel. He was deployed to Syria twice and, according to Russian obituaries, had been participating in the war against Ukraine since its earliest days.

At the same time, last year—in 2025—Khvalov graduated from the St. Petersburg Military Academy and was assigned to a military unit in Smolensk, from where he was once again sent to fight in Ukraine, where he was killed in July 2026 in the village of Terny in the Kramatorsk District of Donetsk Oblast.
