Five Heart-Healthy Foods Named

One of them is a red onion.

Cardiovascular health depends largely on diet. Dr. Nisa Aslam recommends focusing on red and purple foods, which are rich in anthocyanins and other beneficial plant compounds.

This is reported by The Daily Mirror.

One such food is red grapes. They contain polyphenols and resveratrol, which are known for their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. An expert notes that these substances can have a positive effect on cardiovascular health.

Blueberries can also be a healthy addition to your diet. Their rich color is due to their high anthocyanin content. You can add the berries to oatmeal or yogurt, or eat them on their own.

Another option is red onion. In addition to anthocyanins, it contains quercetin—a plant compound that studies have linked to maintaining normal blood pressure.

Don’t forget about blackberries, either. These dark berries are rich in anthocyanins, which are being studied for their effects on metabolism and factors associated with metabolic syndrome.

Red cabbage rounds out the top five. It contains various types of anthocyanins, as well as vitamin C and fiber. Because of this, it can be a beneficial part of a balanced diet.
