A New Commander Of The Ukrainian Armed Forces Medical Forces Has Been Appointed

The medical units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have a new commander. He is Colonel (Medical Corps) and military surgeon Konstantin Gumenyuk.
Prior to this, Gumenyuk served as chief surgeon of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Medical Forces Command. The decree regarding this appointment was signed on September 14 by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
At the same time, in a separate decree, the president relieved Major General Anatoliy Kazmirchuk of his duties; he had served as commander of the Medical Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine since November 2023.
The appointment of the new commander of the Medical Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was also announced by the deputy head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Pavlo Palisa. He explained that Volodymyr Zelenskyy made this decision jointly with the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Mykhailo Drapaty. According to Palisa, Gumenyuk enjoys well-deserved respect among Ukrainian servicemembers and has also earned the “trust of the volunteer community.”
“There is a lot of work and many difficult tasks ahead. The top priority in this position is to protect the lives and health of Ukrainian soldiers,” emphasized Pavel Palisa.
Who Is Konstantin Gumenyuk
Konstantin Gumenyuk is a renowned Ukrainian military surgeon who previously served as chief surgeon of the Armed Forces of Ukraine within the Medical Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In addition, he is a colonel in the medical service, an educator, a Candidate of Medical Sciences, and a Doctor of Medical Sciences.
Gumenyuk is an Honored Physician of Ukraine and a laureate of the Boris Paton National Prize.
He rose through the ranks from a frontline medic to the head of the Armed Forces’ medical service. In May 2014, he worked in the area of the anti-terrorist operation. In 2015, he headed the surgical department as the chief surgeon of the 59th Military Mobile Hospital near Luhansk. He subsequently served as chief surgeon of the ATO (2017) and the Joint Forces Operation (2018–2019). Since 2019, he has headed the surgical service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
