Lukashenko Has Launched Military Exercises Near The Borders Of Poland And Lithuania

The troops will train to "conduct a strategic operation."

Command-staff exercises with the Western Operational Command will begin on September 15, according to a statement from the Belarusian Ministry of Defense. They will practice conducting a strategic operation.

From September 15 to 18, under the leadership of Chief of the General Staff Pavel Muraveiko, troops of the Western Operational Command will train in “joint task execution during the preparation and conduct of a strategic operation.”

The army will practice securing the border, enforcing martial law, combating saboteurs and illegal armed groups, as well as countering enemy light aircraft and drones.

Drones will be deployed, camouflage will be used, and tank battalions will be deployed.

“Practical exercises by the operational group’s troops will take place at the ‘Gozhsky,’ ‘Brestsky,’ and ‘Ruzhansky,’ as well as in specific areas within the Brest and Grodno regions,” the Ministry of Defense reported.

“We are not considering any offensive actions, and in this regard, various speculations, discussions, and claims that the Belarusian Armed Forces are allegedly preparing to attack neighboring countries are completely groundless and have no real basis or concrete evidence,” — Muraveiko stated.

It is noted that the exercise “will begin as planned and is purely defensive in nature,” and that the number of participants and the amount of weaponry do not exceed the parameters set forth in the 2011 Vienna Document (according to which neighbors must be notified if the number of troops participating in exercises exceeds 9,000).
