Renault Has Created The Perfect Retro Sports Car

But not for sale.

Renault has unveiled the 8 Gordini concept—a modern electric coupe inspired by the legendary sports car from the 1960s. Unlike the original, the new model has only two seats, a wide, low body, and a fully electric powertrain, according to Motor1.

The concept features a 270-si-silny electric motor on the rear axle, preserving the main technical principle of the original 8 Gordini—rear-wheel drive. The car is 4.12 meters long, 1.88 meters wide, and just 1.27 meters tall. It has 19-inch wheels in the front and 20-inch wheels in the rear.

In the design, Renault used its signature blue color, double white stripes, round headlights, and flared wheel arches. Even the stripes have been made into a functional part of the body—they’re integrated with the air intake elements and continue into the interior design.

The interior is designed in a minimalist style. There’s no massive screen spanning the entire dashboard: instead, there are small digital gauges inspired by the original car. Aluminum accents, Alcantara, and blue velour seats round out the look.

“We took the key features of the original 8 Gordini and used them as the basis for a completely modern car,” writes Motor1.

However, there will be no production version. Renault has created a one-off model solely to explore the possibilities of a modern reinterpretation of its automotive history.

The concept will be unveiled to the public at the Paris Motor Show, which will take place from October 12 to 18.
