A Village Near Minsk Has Been Without Drinking Water For Three Days

The problem still hasn't been resolved.

Residents of Borovlyany—a village in the Minsk District a few kilometers from the capital—are complaining about the work of municipal services.

“Borovlyany is really getting on my nerves,” writes arsenishevtsov on Threads.. “More specifically, the utility services. The other night, around midnight, the power went out. I thought, ‘Oh well, they’ll turn it back on soon.’ But then I heard a strange sound in the pipes and realized that the water seemed to have been shut off too.” I checked—it was definitely off. I suspect something broke there again and we’ll have brown water in the morning.

That’s exactly what happened. Only now we’ve had brown water for three days straight. At least they put a tank of drinking water in the courtyard. And every month, something breaks down there.”

Social media users suggested that the power and water outages are related, since problems with the electricity force them to restart the pumps.

“Voltage fluctuations cause the pumps to restart. That stirs up all the dirt and rust in the pipes,” wrote one of them.

Readers of the Charter97.org website confirmed that the problem still hasn’t been resolved.

“Brown sludge is coming out of the faucet, and there isn’t always enough water from the tanks for everyone—and it tastes like rust,” said a resident of the village.
