Political prisoner Alyaksandr Barazenka stopped hunger strike

After 7 days of hunger strike the young activist agreed to stop the protest, his lawyer Paval Sapelka says.

The lawyer told about the end of the hunger strike to the mother Alena Barazenka.

“Lawyer Paval Sapelka visited him. He told that he talked with him and persuaded him. The day before yesterday he stopped the hunger strike. The lawyer said that he feels well,” Alena Barazenka said to radio Svaboda.

The activist of the civil campaign “European Belarus” Alyaksandr Barazenka was arrested on October 27 in the Investigation committee of preliminary investigation of the directorate of Internal Affairs of Minsk city executive committee where he came for an interrogation. The oppositionist is one of the accused in the Process of Fourteen, a criminal case initiated on charges relating Article 342 of the Criminal Code against peaceful protest participants. Their rally was held in Minsk on January 10 2008.

Alyaksandr Barazenka was in Poland during the investigation. He is a student of Wroclaw University. After first year student Alyaksandr had been expelled from Belarusian State University for a protest action against cancelling of social benefits, he applied for education Kastus Kalinouski Program. He is to stand trial soon.
