Court refuses to consider complaint of political soldier Yauhen Skrabets

The judge of the Lenin district of Brest ordered to dismiss a complaint of a Young Front activist against unlawful actions of militia.

Judge Karpava explained the dismissal with the fact that the court hadn’t received all documents needed on time, Radio Svaboda reports.

“Without grounds, the judge demanded to give a number of documents that were not needed for consideration of Skrabets’s complaint. Secondly, it’s difficult to collect all documents needed when you are in the army; this is a rather slow process. Thirdly, it takes three weeks to get a letter from Brest to the military unit in Zhlobin. I think the judge intentionally impedes consideration of the complaint in order not to take moral responsibility for a sentence” Young Front representative Anastasia Loika commented on the judge’s decision.

We remind that Yauhen Skrabets was forcefully drafted into the army. He has been serving in Zhlobin since September 21, 2009.

The military enlistment office “hunted” the Brest Young Front activist. He was even kidnapped by militia and forcefully taken to hospital.

Though the youth activists has serious problems with the backbone and can’t serve in the army, the medical examination, carried out on a demand of the military enlistment office, found the young man fit for military service.

The so called “politically motivated draft campaign” was launched against youth actiivsts in Belarus. They are forcefully called up for military service in violation of the law though they have grounds for deferments.
