Police demands acknowledgements on non-participation in Freedom Day from oppositionists

District policemen demand oppositionists of Homel region to write acknowledgements stating they promise not to take part in Freedom Day.

At least, the police have been looking for the leader of “For Freedom” movement regional branch, Pyotr Kuznyatsou, for two days. “On Marc 22 in the evening two policemen visited our office, and asked our team where L. Kuznyatsou and E. Sidarau are. They probably cannot read, as I am P. Kuznyatsou, and my colleague’s name is E. Suvorau. Anyway, our employees answered that they do not know such people. Then the district policeman came to the place of my registration, and tried to find me there, but he failed. Today morning the policeman started to call to my mobile phone insistently, and explained he needs to take a written acknowledgement from me about my non-participation in Freedom Day. I answered that I will not write anything,| Pyotr Kuznyatsou explained to “Vyasna” human rights centre.

A district policeman from Rahachou also insists on signing a document on not going to Minsk on March 25. On March 22 the policeman called Dzyanis Dashkevich, an activist of pro-democracy movement, and informed that he must sign a “document” about non-participation in Freedom Day. On March 23 the district policeman promised to visit the activist at home, in order to receive such an acknowledgement.

By the way, Hrodna police have decided not to monkey with papers. In Hrodna preventive official warnings of pro-democracy activists have started, for them not to go to the capital on Freedom Day.

The previous night, when Yury Istomin, the leader of the regional organization of the United Civil Party was on his way home, two policemen were waiting for him in the doorway. They warned the politician against going to Minsk on Friday.
