Khadyka: I hope Chernobyl Way wouldn’t be poorly attended

9

Applicants for holding the traditional march on the anniversary of Chernobyl tragedy have received an official prohibition for the rally from Minsk city executive committee.

As said by Professor Yury Khadyka, the ban for holding the rally is based purely on the law which bans mass rallies at a distance of about 200 metres from the presidential residence or the National Assembly building, and now also from the metro. The organizing committee opted not to hold an unsanctioned rally.

“All the unsanctioned rallies which cause clashes with police only increase the fear we have in the society, and particularly after December 19, 2010 events. That is why our aim is maximally peaceful rally,” such an opinion was expressed by the applicant for holing Chernobyl Way demo this year Yury Khadyka in an interview to Belsat TV channel.

Despite the ban, the organizers stay optimistic: “I hope the rally would not be poorly attended. It is a matter of principle, as the essence of every Chernobyl Way was not to try strength against riot policemen, but to discuss the vexed problems of the society together,” he said to Belsat.
