General Prosecutor’s Office menace with “harsh responsibility” for calls for sanctions

The authorities of Belarus demonstrate their fear for UN sanctions.

The chief of the directorate of the General Prosecutor’s Office Pavel Radzivonau has made a statement on air of the First Belarusian TV channel concerning the calls to impose sanctions against Belarus.

“Such statements could be categorized as innocent opinion on the social and political situation in Belarus. Possible discriminatory measures against Belarusian enterprises could have negative influence on different strata of Belarusian society. On workers and public servants, on pensioners and disabled persons, children. And from the point of view of the national legislation such actions performed by irresponsible individuals on the territory of Belarus are defined as offence from the point of view of the Criminal Code of Belarus, and rather harsh responsibly is prescribed for that.”

This statement was made in connection with the summons of Viktar Ivashkevich to the General Prosecutor’s Office on March 27. The oppositional politician has been charged with “subversive activity against the state sovereignty” for calls for sanctions imposed for human rights violations in the country.
