Pavel Levinau: Kanavalau’s family does not get in touch because of threats of special services

The relatives of executed Dzmitry Kanavalau still refuse to communicate with journalists.

A human rights activist Pavel Levinau believes that they do not get in touch because of threats on the part of enforcing agencies. That is what he said in an interview to Radio Racyja.

“In fact, the whole Kanavalaus family were arrested after the arrest of Dzmitry – an elder brother and the father. They were kept in custody, as far as I remember, for about three months. Only the mother remained free - a woman who was intimidated. I can only guess what psychological pressure was put on her. Probably psychological and physical pressure was put on other relatives of Dzmitry Kanavalau’s as well. Probably, they were even promised something if they keep silent”, - Pavel Levinau said.

During the whole time of the court’s proceedings and up until the execution the parents of Dzmitry Kanavalau’s were under the guard of people in mufti. Journalists tried to meet with them several times in Vitsebsk, but they still do not get in touch.

We would remind that Dzmitry Kanavalau and Uladzislau Kavalou were accused of the preparation and execution of the terroristic act in Minsk’s metro in 2011 and executed by shooting a year ago. Human rights activists and international organizations claimed about violations in the course of the investigation and trial.
