In order to liberate Belarus from the dictator Lukashenka.
Belarusian Volunteer Regiment named after Kastus Kalinouski, which fights in Ukraine in the ranks of the AFU, will be transferred to defend the border with Belarus in the case of an attack from our country. This was stated by the Mayor of Zhytomyr Serhiy Sukhomlin during the Ukrainian national television marathon. According to him, it may be one of the western regions of Ukraine.
"Just a few days ago I had a meeting with the head of the Kalinouski regiment - they are real patriots of Belarus. In the event of intervention by Belarus, this regiment will be withdrawn from the east and will move to the Belarusian border in order to defend Ukraine and then to liberate Belarus from dictator Lukashenka," Sukhomlin said.
Zhytomyr Mayor notes that so far he can't say what part of the border the Belarusian volunteers will defend. According to him, representatives of the regiment are already establishing ties with Rivne, Volyn and Zhytomyr regions of Ukraine.
The formation is now in eastern Ukraine - next Wednesday the regiment's fighters will receive humanitarian aid, cars and quadcopters from Zhytomyr.
Sukhomlin said that now the border of Zhytomyr region with Belarus is securely closed, and the situation there is "more or less normal": in particular, there are AFU and military defence units, lots of fortifications and concrete fences have been built.
Reports about the meetings with the administrations of the Rivne and Volyn regions of Ukraine were made by the Kalinouski regiment several weeks ago. In particular, during the visit to Volyn, they discussed coordination of actions to protect the region in the event of an invasion from the territory of Belarus.
In addition, in October, regiment representatives met for the first time with deputies of the Verkhovna Rada from the inter-faction association of "Democratic Belarus". The Ukrainian MPs then called the regiment a legitimate representative of the Belarusian people.
