The museum director revealed the details.
A shooting took place at the Main Market Square in Kraków, Poland. Several dozen people took shelter from the attacker in Krzysztofory Palace (Pałac Krzysztofory), which houses the Kraków Museum, located next to the Main Market Square.
This was reported by the museum’s director Michał Nezabitowski. The attack began right next to the museum building, according to tvn24.pl.
According to CCTV footage seized by the police, the perpetrator drove into the Main Market Square and then opened fire from the car at passersby.
All of this took place right next to the Krzysztofora Palace—a branch of the Kraków Museum, which also houses the institution’s administration.
The museum’s director, Dr. Michał Nezabitowski, emphasized that it was in this very building that some of the passersby who were nearby at the time took shelter.
“Staff members of the Kraków Museum immediately let people fleeing the attacker into the Krzysztofory Palace. They provided them with assistance. Fortunately, none of those who ran to us sustained gunshot wounds. However, everyone was in a state of extreme shock. As soon as the people were inside, the staff locked the building to prevent an even greater tragedy,” Nezabitovsky said.
The director emphasized that several dozen people had rushed into the museum.
“They were given support, food, and drinks,” he added.
“I’m still shaking from what happened. Just 40 minutes earlier, I was standing right where the shooter was firing from,” said Michal Nezabitovsky.
