Lithuania, Following Poland, Admits It’s Possible To Completely Close Border With Belarus

Vilnius announced the conditions.

The Lithuanian Interior Ministry, following Poland, announced the possibility of closing the border with Belarus in case of provocations involving the Russian PMC Wagner, LRT reports.

“Consultations [between countries on this issue] are real. There is a possibility of closing the border,” Lithuanian Vice Minister of the Interior Arnoldas Abramavičius said on July 28.

Abramavičius drew attention to the fact that on July 27 “representatives of the Polish government visited the border with Belarus” and “assessed the threats”.

At the same time, in his opinion, Poland can hardly be intimidated by Aliaksandr Lukashenka's statements about a group of Wagnerites “asking permission <...> to go to Warsaw, Rzeszów”.

“About 1,200 Wagnerites have been identified, who are now on the territory of Belarus. Some of them are near the border,” said the deputy head of the Lithuanian Ministry of Internal Affairs. “As a military force, they do not pose any particular danger, it seems to me. As for the possibility of some sort of a provocation — yes, there is”.

On July 27, Polish Minister of the Interior and Administration Mariusz Kaminski said that Warsaw does not rule out “complete isolation of Belarus” if it considers it to be “the right answer at the moment”.
