Shocking losses of the Russian army in Ukraine were announced.
Russia's losses in Ukraine during the offensives on the eastern front exceeded 600,000 personnel killed and wounded. This statement was made at the Pentagon on condition of anonymity during a briefing for journalists, Politico reports.
It is noted that these losses are more than 40 times higher than those that Russia suffered a decade-long invasion of Afghanistan in the 1990s.
The publication emphasized that over the past few months, Russian troops have captured several key cities, which the Ukrainians stubbornly held.
“Russian offensives since the summer have consisted of massive artillery attacks, followed by large troop movements rushing toward well-fortified Ukrainian positions, resulting in thousands of casualties. Moscow’s commanders seem to have decided on a strategy of trading bodies for ground,” the article reads.
Now Russian troops are approaching the city of Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region of Donbas, the fall of which will be a serious blow to Ukrainian forces, Politico added.
According to one military official, Russia has sent an “astounding” number of troops to Pokrovsk, a relatively “small territory.” This confirms its bloody strategy.
